How the ranking works
Your rating is your best altitude from the last six months, where older months count less. Your world rankis your place among every rated player. Your tier is the slice of the field your rank falls in. All three are recalculated on the 1st of every month.
Rating
Every calendar month (UTC) remembers your best altitude of that month. On the 1st, the six most recent finished months are weighed: the month that just ended counts in full, and each older month counts 15% less than the one after it. Your rating is the highest of the six weighed values, rounded down. It is in AU, the same number you see at the end of a run, so you always know what to do: fly higher than your rating.
| Month | Just ended | 1 older | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Counts | 100% | 85% | 72% | 61% | 52% | 44% | not at all |
Example. Mia's monthly bests: May 820, July 640, October 700. On 1 November her rating is the best of 700 × 100%, 640 × 61% and 820 × 44%: 700. She skips November, so on 1 December it is 700 × 85% = 595. She flies 900 in December: on 1 January her rating is 900. One good month restores you completely.
World rank
All rated players sorted by rating, highest first. Equal ratings share a place and the next place is skipped (1, 2, 2, 4), the same rule as the global board in the app.
Tiers
Where your rank falls among all rated players. Tiers are shares of the field, so the AU needed for a tier moves as players get better; the current cutoffs are shown above.
| Tier | Share of rated players |
|---|---|
| Nova | top 1% |
| Star | top 5% |
| Planet | top 15% |
| Moon | top 35% |
| Comet | top 65% |
| Orbit | everyone else who is rated |
| Unrated | no run in the last six finished months |
When it updates
The 1st of every month at 00:10 UTC. Between updates the published numbers stand still; in the app, your own profile shows where you would land if the month ended today. One run in a month is enough to be rated at the next update.
Your profile
Every player with a gamer name has a profile at upsling.space/player/<gamer name>/ showing their tier, rating, world rank, best altitudes and rating history. Nothing else: no email, no leagues, no account details. You can hide your profile from the website in the app under Settings; it then disappears from this page, the search and search engines.
