Upsling is made by Hojtech Holding ApS (CVR 43835092), Denmark ("we"). We are responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: support@hojtech.com.
The short version
- You can play without an account; your progress then stays on your phone.
- If you sign in, the only things others can see are your gamer name and your altitudes.
- Usage analytics, crash reports and remote game settings are off unless you agree: the game asks once ("Help improve Upsling?"), and you can change it any time in Settings › Share usage data.
- The game shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU and UK) we ask first, and ads are only personalized if you agree. You can change your choice in Settings › Ad privacy.
- We never sell your data.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
- This website only uses analytics cookies if you accept them in the cookie banner.
Without an account
Your best altitude, run count, stardust, trails, launch streak and settings are stored only on your phone. If you tap "Remind me", the game schedules one local notification on your phone; no push token is sent to us.
If you sign in with Apple or Google
- Sign-in: Firebase Authentication (Google) stores an identifier for your Apple or Google account. With Google sign-in it also stores the email address and name on your Google profile. We use these only to sign you in.
- Gamer name and board: the name you choose, your best altitude, your best this week and when you set them. These are public in the game.
- Progress backup: a copy of your in-game progress, so you can restore it on another device. Only you can read it.
- Score records: your best, this week's best, the time of your last submission and the course seed of your best run, to check that scores are possible and to keep the boards fair.
Gamer names are checked against a list of offensive and reserved words, in the app and on our server; a name that breaks the rules is removed.
Usage analytics and crash reports (only with your consent)
If you agree when the game asks ("Help improve Upsling?", with equal Share and Don't share buttons) or turn on Settings › Share usage data, the game sends:
- Usage events about the first minutes of play (for example: first touch, first landed release, run ended, altitude, run length) to Google Analytics for Firebase, with an app-instance ID and basic device and app information.
- Crash reports to Firebase Crashlytics: where the app crashed (stack trace), device model, operating system, memory and disk size and app version, with installation and session IDs.
- Performance data to Firebase Performance Monitoring: how long the game takes to start and restart, how many frames are dropped, and timings of its requests to our servers, with device and network type, the country derived from your IP address, and installation and session IDs.
The advertising ID is never collected. Turn the setting off at any time to stop it; crash reports not yet sent are then deleted from your phone.
Game settings and tests: with the same setting on, the game also fetches updated game settings and test variants (for example, how long the first-run help lasts) from Firebase Remote Config, using a Firebase installation ID. Without it, the game uses the settings built into the app.
Protecting the game
The app uses Firebase App Check (Apple App Attest / DeviceCheck, Google Play Integrity) to confirm requests come from the genuine app. These checks don't identify you.
Ads (Google AdMob)
The game is free and shows ads: an optional ad you can watch to continue a run, and from your second day of play an occasional ad between runs. The ads come from Google AdMob (Google Ireland Ltd.). To show them, Google receives your device's advertising identifier (on iPhone only if you allow tracking in Apple's prompt), your IP address, device and app information and how you interact with the ads. Google uses this to choose and show ads, count and measure them, limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraud.
Your choice: in the EU, the UK and other places that require it, Google's consent form (a certified consent tool under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks you before any ad is requested. On iPhone, Apple's tracking prompt follows. If you say no, Google shows limited ads: they aren't personalized, and Google doesn't store or read information on your device for them. Change your answer at any time in Settings › Ad privacy (where offered) or, on iPhone, in iOS Settings › Privacy › Tracking.
Google processes ad data as an independent controller under its own policy (how Google uses information from apps that use its services). Legal basis for us: your consent for personalized ads; our legitimate interest in funding a free game for limited ads, fraud prevention and measurement. Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience.
Remove ads (in-app purchase)
If you buy "Remove ads", Apple or Google handles the payment under their own terms; we never see your payment details. We only receive confirmation that the purchase was made, which the game keeps on your phone and can restore from your App Store or Google Play account.
This website (upsling.space)
Without your consent the website sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising and loads nothing from other companies; fonts, images and video come from our own site. It only remembers your cookie choice, in your browser's local storage, for 12 months, so it doesn't ask on every visit. That is strictly necessary and needs no consent.
With your consent ("Accept analytics" in the cookie banner) we use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd.) to count visits and see which pages are useful. It then sets these cookies:
_ga: distinguishes visitors with a random ID; expires after 13 months._ga_<ID>: keeps track of your visit (session); expires after 13 months.
Google receives the pages you view, how you got here, your browser and device type, screen size, language and an approximate location derived from your IP address (Google Analytics doesn't store the IP address itself). Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, and the data isn't used for advertising. Google processes it for us only; sharing with Google for its own purposes is switched off, except that Google's technical support may access it when we ask for help. Google may process it in the United States (Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework). Legal basis: your consent. Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page; rejecting deletes the Analytics cookies. Withdrawing doesn't affect what was collected before.
The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google). To deliver pages, Google necessarily processes your IP address and basic request details (page, browser type, time) and may keep them briefly in logs for security. We don't use this data to identify or track you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a working, secure website.
Why we use your data (legal bases)
- Account, gamer name, board, progress backup: to provide the features you asked for (contract).
- Analytics, crash reports, performance data and remote game settings in the app, and analytics on the website: your consent, which you can withdraw in the app's Settings or the website's Cookie settings.
- Score checks, name moderation and App Check: our legitimate interest in a fair, safe game.
- Personalized ads: your consent. Limited ads, ad measurement and fraud prevention: our legitimate interest in funding a free game.
- "Remove ads": to provide what you bought (contract).
Where it's stored and who processes it
We use Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC) as our processor, for the game and for hosting this website. Game data (names, boards, progress, scores) is stored in the EU (Belgium, europe-west1). Firebase Authentication, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, Remote Config and Google AdMob may process data outside the EU, including in the United States, under Google's data processing terms. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; for other countries, Google's standard contractual clauses apply. Apple and Google handle your sign-in under their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Analytics data (app and website): 14 months, our Google Analytics retention setting.
- Crash reports: 90 days (Firebase Crashlytics).
- Emails you send us: until your question is handled, at most 2 years.
- Ad data: Google's own retention periods; Google anonymizes advertising data in its server logs by removing part of the IP address after 9 months and cookie information after 18 months.
- Your "Remove ads" purchase: on your phone, and in your store account.
- Performance data: 30 days for events linked to an IP address, otherwise 60 days (Firebase Performance Monitoring).
- Your cookie choice on the website: 12 months, in your browser.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, ask us to restrict or stop processing it, and ask for a copy in a portable format. Delete your account in the app (see Delete your account) or write to us. You can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.dk).
Children
Upsling is a game for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. Signing in and the global board are for players aged 13 and over; younger players can play without an account. Ads in the game are limited to content suitable for a general audience.
Changes
We'll update this page when the game changes how it uses data, and say so in the app when a change matters to you.
